Wheels and Steering…
Notes from the future : Hmm, this is a good example of how little I knew. There’s tonnes I could have written about here, but I didn’t know that I didn’t know enough about it. To be fair to younger me, if I had have read books about vehicle dynamics at this point I’d probably never have finished the car and never made it to my first race.
Why on earth did I make a section called ‘Wheels and Steering’.
I suppose it was to show off my new alloy wheels when I get them. I’ve still no idea what to buy here, I’m thinking ‘Compomotive’ alloys.
As for tyres the TRR/TSSC only allow certain types, more research is obviously needed here.
The steering on the car is of the standard left/right sort, involving a large wheel contrivance that the driver grips firmly between both hands. I mean, what the f**k was I expecting to write about steering, christ – I’m boring myself now and I haven’t even started on the wine…
Oh, Moss Brothers make a quick rack for Spitfires, as far as I know the TRR/TSSC don’t allow you to use it. [Future me : they did allow it]
Perhaps I should mention some stuff about castor angles and negative camber (I’m free styling now.) Your best bet if you’re interested in this stuff is to read Jon Wolfe’s book.
