Costs
Notes from the future : Remember that these are from a) 2001 and b) before I’d entered my first race. Also, if you have read the other posts you will see that I didn’t do that much to the car to get started. 2018 costs would, I suspect be much higher (the Go Racing starter pack from the MSA is over £100 now, for example)
All I know is that I’m broke.
As of 02/09/2001….
NOTE:- these are approximate and what I paid, you may get it cheaper. As I’ve said before, you probably don’t have to do all of these (I’ve tried to mark requirements with a *). Remember, also, that a lot of these are one off costs associated with entry to the sport.
Medical Examination – £60
Driving School – £150
*MSA ‘Go Racing’ Pack – £39
*ARDS Course and tests – £150
*National B Racing License – £35
Car (running total spent since deciding to race – NOT including car itself) – £1500
*Club Memberships (although I already paid these) – £50
Misc. (this includes books, tools, trips to race days and all the other trimmings) – £150
TOTAL – £2,134
I’m loosing track a bit now, but this is probably approximately correct. I’d give it a margin of error of +/- 800 pounds. Of course, it’s far more likely to be +.
I’m reckoning that I’m looking at probably 3-4 grand in total before I’m really ready to start, but hopefully this will include my fireproof romper suit and everything else.
